In Settlers of K'tah, each player has two castles to place in the game as their initial settlements. Eventually, there will be four different styles of castle to choose from, but currently there are only two, and the one seen above is the one I modeled.

Below are some concept sketches I made before beginning modeling.

As my animation partner designed a more gothic style castle, I decided to go with a more romantic design for mine in order to give players more variety when choosing their castle. Below is the castle I modeled in Maya, then textured in Substance Painter.

Similar to the resource tiles, the castles are kept low poly and any extra detail is created using textures. Below are shots of the castle after being imported into Unreal Engine 4.

However, we noticed that from a distance the neutral colors of the castle cause it to get a bit lost amidst its environment.

To counteract this, I decided to make a variety of color options for the castle material, so that when a player chooses their castle style, they can also select a color. This allows for the castle to be seen much easier, as well as providing an extra layer of customization for users.
